The Northford Women's Club, a member of the GFWC, is an all-volunteer, nonprofit club consisting fiery and determined women who are outspoken, vivacious, and politically and socially active. This is a very lively, fun-loving, and friendly group of career and family women and spry elderly activists who love to socialize, but also are serious in their desire to improve the community in which they live and to make a visible difference.
The activities chosen by the Northford Women's Club are geared toward improving life in Northford and the surrounding areas in a variety of ways. In the past year, the club sponsored community activities including Food Baskets for Needy Families, filling backpacks for The Conneciticut Food Bank, Scholarships for High School Seniors, and Student Service Award Scholarships.
Fundraising activities for charity include Military Whist Card Party, Walk Against Hunger for the CT Food Bank, and A Day at the Vineyard at Gouveia Vineyards. The club also occasionally hosts guest speakers with topics that are important to today's women.
The popular Annual Christmas Dinner and Holiday Auction
is always a festive and lively year-end event. Gift baskets, crafts, and
food baskets, many of which are handmade and donated by members and area
merchants, are piled high on tables. Sotheby's is no match for this most
revered occasion as members and guests engage in friendly and vivacious
bidding.
The club, which began in 1963 and became federated in 1965, is growing,
with more than thirty members who meet once a month at Stanley T. Williams Community Center, Middletown Avenue, Northford. Membership is open to all women eighteen
and over. New activities are planned each year, so boredom is just not
an option and there is sure to be an event to please everyone. So, consider
being part of a positive and fun group of vivacious women while being
proactive in your community by joining the Northford Women's Club.
